School History
Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School was established as an expansion of Al Azhar 8 Islamic Junior High School in Bekasi. The positive response from the community toward Islamic junior high school education in the Bekasi area, particularly in Kemang Pratama, made it a primary choice for parents seeking quality Islamic education for their children at that time. In accordance with its initial objective, Al Azhar 8 Islamic Junior High School was designed to accommodate only three parallel classes. However, the growing number of prospective students wishing to enroll in Islamic junior high schools driven by increasing parental awareness of the importance of Islamic education led to a significant rise in demand. As a result, in 1999, the leadership of Al Azhar 8 Islamic Junior High School and the foundation applied for operational permits for two schools: Al Azhar 8 Islamic Junior High School and Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School.
In 1999, Al Azhar 8 Islamic Junior High School received official approval and began operating in Kemang Pratama, Bekasi, following the issuance of an operational license from the Regional Office of the Department of Education and Culture of West Java Province under Decree No. 3315/102.1/Kep/OT/1999 dated October 4, 1999. Ten days later, the establishment permit for Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School was issued through Decree No. 3377/102.1/Kep/OT/1999 dated October 14, 1999, officially granting operational status to Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School. The school opened its first classes in the 2001/2002 academic year. In 2004, based on the decision of the National School Accreditation Board under the Bekasi City Education Office, Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School was officially accredited on December 13, 2004, achieving a score of 94.95, qualifying for Grade A (Excellent) status and receiving “Equalized” status.
In 2008, the school was re-accredited by the National School Accreditation Board (BASN) under the Bekasi City Education Office on November 25, 2008, earning a score of 98.95 with Grade A (Excellent). In 2012, based on the decision of the West Java Provincial Accreditation Board (BAP), the school received another accreditation score of 99 (Excellent). In its most recent accreditation in 2017, the school maintained its Excellent status with a score of 96. In line with the advancement of the times, Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School continues to strive for excellence by enhancing both academic and non-academic programs and consistently innovating through various initiatives.
Through these continuous efforts, Al Azhar 9 Islamic Junior High School is now recognized as a leading Islamic school, acknowledged for its excellence in both academic and non-academic fields, as well as its strong commitment to developing students’ talents.
