National Santri Day

National Santri Day

April 11, 2026

National Santri Day, commemorated every October 22nd, honors the important role of santri (Islamic boarding school students) in the struggle to defend Indonesia’s independence. This day was established by the government as a form of appreciation for the contributions of Islamic scholars (ulama) and santri to the nation. The commemoration is celebrated by people across Indonesia, especially within pesantren communities, Islamic educational institutions, and the younger generation, through various activities such as collective prayers, the recitation of shalawat, and historical reflections. These activities are held in pesantren, schools, government offices, and other public spaces throughout Indonesia, aiming to instill religious values, a spirit of nationalism, love for the homeland, and exemplary character in daily life.
